It is normally becomes a family tradition around All Hallows Eve for many families across America to sit down and witness the strangeness that is The Addams family bring a certain darkness to the world. When we think of this bizarre family we think of the tv series or the movies, but not many would have thought The Addams Family...as...well a musical.

Personally when I heard in 2011 that The Addams Family was being made into a musical that would haunt Broadway later that year I was....skeptical. It could be a really good show, or it could be a really bad show. Sadly I never had the chance to see the show during its Broadway run however when I heard there would be local production of The Addams Family by the Evergreen players. I had to admit I was very curious.

The CenterStage in Evergreen, CO is a very small community theater; the set was simple due to the limited space, and it work well to create the dark home that is owned by The Addams Family.

The show centers on Wednesday Addams played by McKenna O'Meara, as she has become a young woman and also has a boyfriend whom will be bringing his family to dinner that very night. Mortician played by Edie Cherubino and Gomez played by Ian Kisluk grow worried thinking their daughter is acting very strange, and try to figure out just what their daughter is hiding from them. Throughout the show we see how The Adddams Family reacts to meeting the completely, "normal" boyfriend Lucus and his mother and father. While the question still remains, what secret has Wednesday been hiding form her family who believe there should never be any secrets between family?

To say O'Meara as Wednesday lead the cast is an understatement. She defiantly found her inner Wednesday; and brought a good blend to the character. Within the cast I did find myself enjoying the ensemble, who are the dead Addams of old and stay throughout the show doing as they are told by Fester so that he will finally allow them to return to their graves. Each ancestor performed with a certain charm and brought the audience a lot of laughs.

Overall the production is sweet, lighthearted, and funny. If you are looking for nice family night out to the theatre. Then come see The Evergreen Players bring a bit of Halloween to your Summer. The Addams Family runs through July 31st t the Center Stage. For tickets call 303-674-4934 or online at www.evergreenplayers.org.
