And Toto Too Theatre Joins WomenArts in International Celebration of SWAN DAY Today

And Toto too Theatre Company is proud to be a part of Swan Day, an International Celebration of the Woman Artist. Join the company today, March 29, 2014 from 7-10 pm at Skylight Station, 910 SantaFe, Denver CO 80204, in the heart of the Santa Fe Arts District. The evening starts with a mixer, followed by 10 minute readings of work by local playwrights Nina Alice Miller, Leslie C. Lewis, Melissa Lucero McCarl, Rebecca Gorman O'Neill, and Susan Hickey, the work of visual artists Tracy Frickey and Deb Hultgren and the work of the women from MissionWear.org. This event is part of a new international celebration of women artists called SWAN Day (Support Women Artists Now Day). "Women artists are creating change in their communities and around the world," said Martha Richards, the co-founder of SWAN Day. "This day of celebration will help people imagine what the world would be like if women's art and perspectives were fully integrated into all of our lives. The long term goal of SWAN Day is to inspire communities to recognize and support women artists as a basic element of civic planning."

And Toto too Theatre Company supports women on a year round basis with its mission to produce new plays by women playwrights. As they start their 9th season they are proud that they have produced, through their Play Crawl and regular season, 28 world premiere plays, 5 regional premiere's and hosted 2 workshops with artists in residence.

Susan Lyles, Producing Artistic Director, said that she is very proud to be participating in SWAN Day. "I have worked with amazing women artists over the years and SWAN Day is an official way to acknowledge the contributions of these women artists, and to encourage people to seek out the work of women artists year round."

SWAN Day is an annual event facilitated by WomenArts (www.womenarts.org) taking place on the last Saturday of Women's History Month (March) and the surrounding weeks. The idea for SWAN Day grew out of a collaboration between Martha Richards of WomenArts and Jan Lisa Huttner of Chicago's WITASWAN (Women in the Audiences Supporting Women Artists Now). WomenArts is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping women artists get the resources they need to do their creative work. Its emphasis is on women in film, video, and theatre. The WomenArts website provides free networking, advocacy, and funding information services to approximately 2,000 visitors a day.

WITASWAN (www.films42.com/witaswan.asp) is an informal alliance of women who are using their power as consumers to increase opportunities for women artists. It began as an initiative of the Illinois chapter of the American Association of University Women.

Located and legally incorporated as a Not-for-Profit in Denver, Colorado, the And Toto too Theatre Company mission is to help promote women in all mediums of the arts, with an emphasis in producing plays written by women.
