Our Productions' Young Artist Training Program is excited to announce an expansion for 2016. Adding to their exemplary Musical Theatre Conservatory, we will be offering new Art by Design courses with Executive Producer and Resident Designer, Scott Kirkham.
With increased focus on STEM in schools, the importance and exploration of design, art and building skills in our children have never been more important. Important to the artistic design and build process is exposing children to a different take on the word "failure." In our process, progress can't be made with out a "fail" to allow reflection, redesign, and a new approach. This establishes characteristics of creativity, persistence, teamwork and grit in children - some of the key qualities to success in real life.
Under the direction of Scott Kirkham, these courses are in a small (4-6 students per session), semi-private setting where techniques are tailored to match the personal experience and skill level of each student. Each successive enrollment will include more advanced projects and skills. Students are welcome to enroll in both Art & Design and Build simultaneously, as they cover very different skills. Mr. Kirkham holds his M.F.A. in Scenic Design from Florida State University, and is a professional, critically acclaimed designer and artist. He has worked with students from pre-school to college ages, is a father of two, and is also available for private sessions to aid college applicants with their admission portfolios.
There is both a Winter and a Spring session in either Art 101, where students will learn basic techniques for pencil, pastels, watercolor, acrylic paint, and clay, or Design & Build, where students will learn basic hand tool use, safety, beginning construction techniques, and how to take an idea from paper to project.
There are limited openings, and an audition is not required. Enroll online now at http://www.ourproductionstheatreco.org/#!yatp/csm
