The Bijou Theatre presents Il Trovatore, as a part of their Opera in Cinema Series playing on Monday, November 17th at 6:00pm. Tickets are $20 for general admission seating.

This musical feast from Berlin's Staatsoper Unter den Linden stars Anna Netrebko and Plácido Domingo in debut roles at the head of an impressive ensemble directed by Daniel Barenboim.

Anna Netrebko, "in devastating form" (The Times), draws a compelling and immediate portrait of Leonora from beginning to end. Plácido Domingo, once the most-sought-after Manrico of his generation, stars for the first time as Conte di Luna, radiating the "Domingo warmth of past times" with "his magical stage presence [that] ennobles every evening of opera" (Die Welt). Daniel Barenboim's debut in conducting this work is "positively sensational" (Berliner Zeitung), "creat[ing] wonderful moments of soft tone ... and reveal[ing] a constantly fascinating Verdi" (Süddeutsche Zeitung).

Philipp Stölzl, an internationally acclaimed stage and screen director blends historical and modern elements into a colorful, Alice in Wonderland-inspired production, brilliantly realizing Verdi's filmic shifts between past and present in surrealistic video projections and a fascinating choreography of scenic lighting. Musical America writes "the aesthetic creates a tone of classic and comic" and Le Monde praises the production's "glamorous display and virtuosic stylistic mix for this staging with Philipp Stölzl's signature". The lavish period costumes by Ursula Kundra and "the expert lighting by Olaf Freese" (Express, UK) make their own contribution to this brilliant staging.
