The Cleveland Orchestra announces a three-concert At the Movies series for the 2017-18 season. Following the popularity of film screenings with live music during the past six seasons, the Orchestra continues the tradition with Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, North by Northwest Live, and DISNEY IN CONCERT: Tim Burton's The Nightmare before Christmas. All three movies will be projected on a giant screen above the Severance Hall stage, with music performed live. At the Movies series subscriptions are available now for purchase through the Severance Hall Ticket Office, online at clevelandorchestra.com, or by calling Cleveland Orchestra Ticket Services at 216-231-1111 or 1-800-686-1141.

On Friday, October 27, just before Halloween, the classic 1920 silent horror film Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, starring John Barrymore, will be presented with acclaimed organist Todd Wilson accompanying the film with improvised live music. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is widely considered the first great American horror film. The Washington Post callEd Barrymore's performance in the film "a masterpiece." It is the film that made him a movie star - finally achieving acclaim for his film work on a par with that of his stage appearances. The film is based on the 1886 novella The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, by Robert Louis Stevenson.

On Sunday, November 19, North by Northwest Live, the Alfred Hitchcock thriller starring Cary Grant, Eva Marie Saint, and James Mason, will be shown with the music score by Bernard Herrmann performed live by The Cleveland Orchestra, under the direction of Richard Kaufman. Nominated for three Academy Awards, North by Northwest appears on many lists of the greatest films of all time, and in 1995 was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry by the United States Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."

To close the series, on Wednesday, December 20, The Cleveland Orchestra, led by Assistant Conductor Vinay Parameswaran, performs Danny Elfman's score to the 1993 animated fantasy musical film DISNEY IN CONCERT: Tim Burton's The Nightmare before Christmas, produced and conceived by Tim Burton and directed by Henry Selick. An additional concert showing, not part of the At the Movies series, will take place on Tuesday, December 19.

The Cleveland Orchestra's 2017-18 At the Movies series is sponsored by PNC Bank.
