Cleveland Public Theatre (CPT) is proud to announce the opening of CPT's 2017/2018 season with Teatro Publico de Cleveland's ¡OBRAS EN EVOLUCIÓN! A FESTIVAL OF NEW PLAY READINGS, onstage October 5 - 7, 2017, in CPT's James Levin Theatre.

About ¡OBRAS EN EVOLUCIÓN! A FESTIVAL OF NEW PLAY READINGS

Now in its fifth year, Teatro Publico de Cleveland launches a workshop series of new scripts and scenes created by local Latino artists. This series will feature 10-minute plays and showings of material in a staged reading format, performed in both English and Spanish, with supertitles.

¡OBRAS EN EVOLUCIÓN! A FESTIVAL OF NEW PLAY READINGS is a behind-the-scenes glimpse of work-in-progress. Audiences get to witness plays that are still unfinished, in the process of developing.

Featuring six works-in-progress, performances include live music and Latin food before every show, plus a post-show dance party on Friday and Saturday. Thursday is "Family Night," with reduced tickets for adults and youth (<18). Audience members are invited to engage with the creative process and give feedback following each showing.

Jason Estremera, CPT Board Member and Teatro Publico de Cleveland ensemble member states: "When you attend a TPC show, not only are you getting quality work that is culturally relevant, but you are also entering a completely immersive experience filled with music, food and dancing. The new play festival of readings is an incredible opportunity to see how far the group has come because all of the performances are written, directed and performed by TPC members-many of whom never had any formal training outside of CPT. This is an exciting time for our group and for our audiences."

According to ¡OBRAS EN EVOLUCIÓN! A FESTIVAL OF NEW PLAY READINGS producer, Raymond Bobgan: "This project represents a major growth moment for Teatro Publico de Cleveland (TPC) - with several company members stepping into leadership roles of playwright and director. Because scripts inside this festival are unfinished works-in-progress, audiences will gain a more intimate connection with the process and a deeper relationship to the work. I'm especially excited because most of the local Latino audience has never been part of a new play development process where they will witness what happens behind the scenes and get to be part of making the play."
