Sheera Ben-David, the acclaimed vocalist called "a fully developed dramatic singer who delivers the goods on several counts" by The New York Times, will return to the Oak Room of the Algonquin Hotel with an exclusive engagement from June 17 - 28. Her new show "Come Summer," welcomes the warm weather with standards by Cole Porter ("Too Darn Hot") and Antonio Carlos Jobim ("The Waters Of March"); theater classics by Jerry Herman ("Ribbons Down My Back") and Leonard Bernstein ("Something's Coming"); and compositions by newer writers like John Bucchino ("This Moment"), Jason Robert Brown ("A Summer In Ohio") and Tom Kitt ("I Miss The Mountains").
The show features musical direction by her brother Adam Ben-David, current Musical Director of Jersey Boys on Broadway, and direction by Eric Michael Gillett. In addition, her new CD "On A Carousel" - featuring live performances recorded over the last few years - will be released on June 3. The recording features songs by Jacques Brel ("Carousel"), George Gershwin ("It Ain't Necessarily So") and Stephen Sondheim ("Send In The Clowns"). Sheera will celebrate the release of the album with a free in-store performance and CD signing at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, June 4 at Barnes & Noble Lincoln Center (1972 Broadway at 66th Street).Sheera Ben-David, first came to prominence in the Algonquin Hotel's "Young Artists Competition," but has carved out a niche for herself as one of New York's most expressive and distinctive vocalists. In 2006, Sheera received critical acclaim for her debut engagement at the Algonquin's Oak Room. As a result, she was awarded the Ira Eaker Award for Special Achievement at the Back Stage Bistro Awards in 2007.
