Tony Winning Broadway Actress Tammy Grimes Dies at 82

The New York Times reports that two-time Tony Award winner Tammy Grimes passed away on Sunday in Englewood, N.J. She was 82-years-old.

Grimes made her stage debut in JONAH AND THE WHALE with Neighborhood Playhouse in 1955. She won her first Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her role as Molly Brown in 1961's THE UNSINKABLE MOLLY BROWN. The actress picked up her second Tony Award for the 1969 revival of Noel Coward's PRIVATE LIVES.

Grimes starred in a multitude of Broadway productions including RATTLE OF A SIMPLE MAN, HIGH SPIRITS, 42nd STREET, CALIFORNIA SUITE, A MUSICAL JUBILEE, LOOK AFTER LULU and THE ONLY GAME IN TOWN.

The actress also appeared in such films as "Play It as It Lays," "High Art," "The Last Unicorn" and "Slaves of New York" and appeared in many TV movies and series, including the short-lived ABC sitcom "The Tammy Grimes Show."

Grimes is survived by her brother and daughter, Tony-winning actress Amanda Plummer.
