Oscar Isaac Joins Cast of DUNE

Oscar Isaac is in early negotiations to join the cast of Denis Villeneuve's adaptation of Dune, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Isaac will play Duke Leto Atreides, father to the film's protagonist Paul Atreides (Timothee Chalamet), whom the Duke shares with the Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson).

The cast also includes Charlotte Rampling, Dave Bautista and Stellan Skarsgard. Villeneuve, Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts wrote the film's script. Villeneuve will also produce, along with Mary Parent and Cale Boyter.

Frank Herbert published the novel Dune in 1965, and it went on to become a sci-fi literary classic. The novel tells the sprawling story of a fallen noble family's attempt to control a desert planet named Arrakis and its export, a rare spice drug, while being betrayed by a galactic emperor.

In 1984, David Lynch directed the first film adaptation of Dune. Legendary is the studio behind the new adaptation.

Isaac is best known for starring in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi as Poe Dameron. He is also known for starring in sci-fi projects such as Ex Machina and Annihilation. He can be seen next in March's Triple Frontier opposite Ben Affleck, as well as in December's Star Wars: Episode IX.
