Music Box Films Launches New Streaming Service 'Music Box Direct'

Arthouse film distributor Music Box Films is expanding into the streaming sphere with the launch of their new subscription OTT platform, Music Box Direct, beginning April 1, 2019. The new service, founded with the mission of "bringing the arthouse to your house," will feature a curated selection of content including foreign and independent films, documentaries, and international television, with new content added every month.

The service will first be available exclusively with Roku and will expand to Amazon Fire TV and AppleTV later this year. Available titles upon launch include Pawel Pawlikowski's Academy Award-winning film Ida, the Academy Award-nominated A Man Called Ove, Terence Davies' romantic drama starring Rachel Weisz and Tom HiddlestonThe Deep Blue Sea,TheGirl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy, Jimmy Chin and Elizabeth Chai Debecki's Meru, and more.

"Music Box Direct is as much an opportunity for growth as it is born out of the necessity of needing a home for arthouse content," said Lisa Holmes, Director of Home Entertainment Sales at Music Box Films. "The Music Box Direct platform will not only give us a guaranteed streaming home for our catalog content in these rapidly changing times, but will also allow us to develop a direct relationship with viewers and cast a broader net for content than we would for the Music Box Films label."

Music Box Films, which acquires and distributes films theatrically, on physical media, and on digital platforms, plans to expand its scope of acquisitions to include content for exclusive release on Music Box Direct.

Pricing for the service will begin at $4.99/month or $49.99/year.
