Deadline.com reports that Australian musician, actor, and comedian Tim Minchin will appear in a recurring role on the upcoming season of Showtime's CALIFORNICATION. He will portray 'Atticus Fetch' described as "Bowie, Bono and Lennon all rolled up into one charming yet mad-as-a-hatter rock star."

In the show, Minchin's character is hired to write the music for a Broadway musical, 'A Crazy Little Thing Called Love', which is adapted from Hank Moody’s (David Duchovny) breakthrough novel God Hates Us All. Atticus tries to convince Moody to write the book for the musical, with the prospect of turning it into a “rock opera” about “love conquering all.”

In real life, Minchin wrote Matilda: The Musical, based on Roald Dahl’s novel, which has been staged in London’s West End and will be coming to Broadway in 2014. His tour has recently made stops in the UK, Australia and North America. Minchin has also performed as a stage actor.
