Invited X-FACTOR Contestant Will Perform at Trump Inauguration Under One Condition
Rebecca Ferguson, a British singer who was a runner-up on Season 7 of THE X FACTOR, turned to Twitter to reveal that she has been invited to perform at the presidential inauguration of Donald Trump.
In the Twitter post, the singer says she will gladly accept the invitation if she is allowed to sing "Strange Fruit," a protest song which was originally recorded by Billie Holiday in 1939.
She writes: "I've been asked and this is my answer. If you allow me to sing "strange fruit" a song that has huge historical importance, a song that was blacklisted in the United States for being too controversial. A song that speaks to all the disregarded and down trodden black people in the United States. A song that is a reminder of how love is the only thing that will conquer all the hatred in this world, then I will graciously accept your invitation and see you in Washington. Best Rebecca X"
In recent weeks, a host of entertainers have declined invitations to perform at the event, including members of the Radio City Rockettes and a member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
It remains to be seen if the president-elect agrees to Ferguson's offer.
