HULU Premieres Original Series CURSE OF THE CRIMSON MASK From Award Winning Filmmaker

CURSE OF THE CRIMSON MASK is an inventive new series that joins HULU's impressive lineup up of original content, exclusive content and programming from major networks such as FOX, NBCUniversal, ABC, and The CW.

The series, based on creator Elias Plagianos' debut feature film "The Crimson Mask", won him a Best Television Director award at the L.A. Film & TV Festival. " I think we have taken all the best elements of the film, and transitioned it to the series in a clever way. Audiences can connect now more than ever to this story of two men who would risk everything to overcome their debts, but whether they also consider the show's complicatEd Moral center is up to them. Either way the series is still pure entertainment and escapism," says Plagianos.

The show, a crime noir thriller with strong fantasy undertones, tells the story of a desperate businessman (Josh Burrow) and a pro wrestler who's fallen on hard times (Robert Clohessy). They find their fates colliding in an alternate universe New York City where an ancient conspiracy could prove the path to redemption.

Executive Producer and star Robert Clohessy was able to fit this project in his busy schedule as a recurring character on CBS' "Blue Bloods", and HBO's " Boardwalk Empire" for which he won a Screen Actors Guild Award. " The film was so well received in the independent film community, winning something like 40 awards from all over the world, that I was a bit apprehensive about taking it to a series. Eventually I realized this was a great opportunity to reach a whole new audience, and I love how the episodes play out. It reminds me of the Twilight Zone," states Clohessy.

Actor Josh Burrow, best known for playing the iconic Captain Morgan in the popular "To Life, Love, and Loot" commercial series, had similar comments. "It's unique in that we talk about a lot of real world issues, but the discussion happens in an very cinematic style. There's everything from secret societies, to underground poker and wrestling matches. My character's episode takes place in a space that has the look and spirit of the 1980's, but Robert's episode has elements of everything from 20's to 70's era New York City. Somehow Elias was able to take these very different stories and put them together in a way that makes sense when our characters meet."

Critics and festival audiences were wowed by Plagianos' ambitious project, a complex narrative with comic book visuals that was produced on a shoe string budget. HULU and Plagianos are looking to expand this Cult audience, and bring the story to HULU's millions of users, who are eager for new exclusive content.
