Neil Patrick Harris wants to be a freak! So much so that he penned AMERICAN HORROR STORY: FREAK SHOW creator Ryan Murphy a letter asking to join the new season of the FX series, but Murphy never responded. Hear what the HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH star finds appealing about variety shows, freak shows and more in Entertainment Weekly's interview below!

Last season of American Horror Story picked up 17 Emmy nominations, making it this year's third-most nominated series. FREAK SHOW is set to air this October on FX.

Set in Jupiter, Florida, in 1950, FREAK SHOW will feature AHS alum Jessica Lange portraying a German ex-pat who is managing one of the last freak shows in the U.S. Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, and Frances Conroy will all appear as performers rescued by Lange's character.

Harris won this year's Tony and Drama Desk awards for Best Actor in a Musical for HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH on Broadway. Starting next month, Andrew Rannells will take over the lead role. Before HEDWIG, Harris starred on Broadway in ASSASSINS, PROOF and CABARET. He is well known for his role as 'Barney Stinson' on the sitcom How I Met Your Mother and is a four-time host of the Tony Awards. The actor can be seen on the big screen now in A MILLION WAYS TO DIE IN THE WEST and will next appear in GONE GIRL.
