Peter Yanowitz, the drummer for Broadway's Hedwig and the Angry Inch, has taken in a rescue dog named Cupid in support of Best Friends Animal Society, a national animal welfare organization dedicated to ending the killing of pets in America's shelters.

Besides starring on Broadway, Yanowitz is also the original drummer for The Wallflowers. He and his wife Lisa, a former model turned delivery and labor nurse, recently opened up their home to fellow New Yorker, Cupid, a special dog in need of a fospice (foster with hospice care) place to live out his golden years.

When Best Friends pulled Cupid, a senior Maltese mix from Animal Care Centers of NYC with a laundry list of health issues including hip dysplasia, as well as heart and liver problems, the organization knew it would take a special kind of family to welcome the one-toothed pup into their home. Luckily, the Yanowitz family was up for the challenge.

Since April, Cupid has been the center of the Yanowitz household. His days are now filled with all the little things that make life wonderful. When they discovered Cupid likes being held like a baby, they got him a "pooch pouch" where he watches NYC life as he strolls comfortably around the streets. And to help with his mobility due to hip issues, the couple outfitted him with little booties when his paws finally do touch the floor.

Best Friends hosts wide-scale events to aid local humane organizations and work closely with Animal Care and Control of NYC on foster care and adoption programs to help reduce the number of shelter deaths in the City.
