Supergirl teams up with her former enemy to fight the Daxamite invasion and try to save Lena and Mon-El. When the President of the United States tells Alex to blow up the Daxamite main ship, Kara is horrified because her best friend and boyfriend are trapped onboard. But with the help of her friends, including the newly returned Cat Grant, Kara is ready for the fight.

Lena wakes up to find herself in a strange bed in a fancy dress with Rhea watching over her. "I've been taking care of you since Supergirl nearly killed you," the evil alien queen tells her. But Lena is having none of it and insists, "You lied to me and used me." Rhea tells Lena that she's meant for better things that she can provide her. She says, "You are where you belong, beside me, presiding over this new world that we will create together." Um...that's creepy?

The Daxamites are mindlessly attacking National City civilians with spaceships and soldiers. Even the National City Police Department is under attack, though Maggie makes it out safely. I was shocked when the DEO was infiltrated and Alex had to evacuate it to the alien dive bar. This episode' s first ten minutes were absolutely insane.

Mon-El, who was captured by Rhea, questions her plans for Earth. She explains that she wants to force humans to build monuments to Daxam and has stocked the ships with Daxam's elite to resettle the Earth. Rhea then reveals her weirdest plan yet: she's forcing Lena and Mon-El to marry and be the rulers of New Daxam.

Meanwhile, back at the alien bar, J'onn is still in the nightmare coma that Rhea put him in; I really missed David Harewood this episode. Kara, Alex, Winn, James, and Maggie are trying to brainstorm solutions when Lillian Luthor walks in. She gloats that her prediction of an alien invasion was correct, but offers to work together to save Lena and defeat Rhea. The friends quickly refuse to work with her, despite her begging Kara.

Winn picks up the signal of a message that President Olivia Marsden is sending to Rhea to ask her to abandon her siege of National City. She's on Airforce One on her way to the city and threatens that the militaries of Earth will band together against the Daxamites. Cat Grant walks in and suggests that as women, they have no need to use force and should simply talk it out. I've missed Cat Grant being on the show so much, especially her advice and pop culture references.

Rhea hangs up on them and Cat is shocked, but then the plane is attacked. Cat falls through the sky until Supergirl catches her and brings her to safety on the ground. As th ey stand amongst the plane wreck, suddenly the President in her alien form pushes her way from under a piece of the airplane. "I suppose I owe you an explanation," she offers to which Cat Grant quips, "Well, at least tell me you're still a Democrat."

Kara brings the President and Cat to the alien bar and Winn is excited to see Cat. After hugging her, he questions how she made it out alive, to which she simply says, "My city is under siege. Do you think I would just allow myself to die?" Classic Cat Grant. They quickly explain the DEO to Cat, who in turn tells them that she knows the president because she was her RA in college. Honestly, I would expect nothing less.

President Marsden tells them that she was one of the few to escape her home planet when invaders enslaved the rest of her people. She says that they did nothing to fight back and that National City cannot do the same. She declares Alex Acting Director of the DEO and tells them that they need to access the positron cannon in the DEO and destroy the main Daxamite ship. Kara insists that they can't, but the President tells them that it's an order.

Mon-El and Lena tell Rhea that they refuse to get married, but she insists that they will marry and have an heir. Apparently Daxamites can generat e a child simply from DNA (that seems problematic) and she already has taken locks of their hair. When they show no sign of backing down, she tells Lena that she will destroy the Luthor Family Children's Hospital and as many hospitals as she needs to until she agrees. Both of them reluctantly tell Rhea that they will go through with the marriage.

Alex has sent the president back to DC, but Kara is shocked that she's considering going through with the plan. Kara tells her, "Imagine if it was Maggie" but Alex insists that there isn't another way.

When Supergirl goes outside, Cat is there waiting and asks her who is on the ship that they're trying to save. "My boyfriend and my best friend," Kara tells her and admits that she feels selfish that she won't sacrifice them for the good of National City. Cat confesses that she left National City because she was unhappy and went to the Himalayas because it's considered the happiest place on earth. She says that she learned there that the secret of happiness is human connection. "It's not about what you do," she tells Supergirl. "It's about who you love."

Inspired by Cat, Kara tells Lillian Luthor that she's willing to work together, despite Alex's protests. Lillian explains that they found a device in the Fortress of Solitude that can b eam them to the ship. Meanwhile, Alex will gain control of the cannon at the DEO and be ready to blow up the ship as soon as they rescue Lena and Mon-El. Winn points out that they're forgetting the biggest obstacle of all: Rhea. "I'm the Queen of distraction," Cat offers and says that she'll simply need Winn's help. Lillian also offers that the Daxamites are particularly susceptible to lead.

At the Fortress of Solitude, as Hank Henshaw/Cybourg Superman readies the machine, Supergirl asks Lillian why she never told Lena about her true identity. Just as I was hoping to see her redeemed a bit, she admits it's because Lena will eventually find out the truth and hate Kara for lying to her. Charming. Hank gets the machine working and the three are transported to the ship.

And it's just in time as Rhea has started the marriage ceremony between Lena and Mon-El. They're both reluctant, but Rhea even has Lena dressed in a strange red dress and tiara. Honestly, sometimes I wish that Rhea weren't so completely evil and had a bit more humanity to her (no pun intended).

Meanwhile, Cat and Winn showed up to CatCo which is still destroyed from the alien attack in last week's episode. Winn broadcasts Ca t speaking across National City and even to Rhea. She urges the people, "Believe me, you have the power and right now you have a job to do: resist." As Cat talks, people across the city start fighting back against the Daxamites. "Everyone needs to be a hero; everyone needs to get up and say: not in my house," Cat tells them. (I'll be honest: I started hearing "In My House" from Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812 in my head.) Rhea sends a squadron to kill Cat and cancels the interrupted wedding.

Alex and Maggie fight their way through the DEO to the cannon. As they power it up, the President talks to Alex through her headpiece, reminding her that they expect her to fire as soon as the cannon is ready.

Mon-El and Lena break free from their guard and are finding their way through the ship when they run into Supergirl and Lillian. It was so funny to see Mon-El and Kara have to act like they don't know each other in front of Lena. Perhaps I shouldn't have been surprised when Lillian left Mon-El and Kara on the ship and took Lena home. When she called Alex to say that they were off the ship and she was free to fire, I almost screamed out loud!

Lena is furious with her mother who insists that they should die with the rest of the aliens. Luckily, Kara expected this betrayal and brought a back-up device. She tells Mon-El that he has to leave with it while she gives Rhea one last chance to surrender. They say a tearful goodbye before she sends him home. Honestly, why do I always chose the couples who have to say the most goodbyes?

As Winn praises Cat for her broadcast, a squadron of Daxamites shows up to kill her. Just in time, the Guardian arrives and sprays lead dust at them (Winn's idea, of course). He manages to take out all of the Daxamites, though Cat sees straight through his disguise and says, "Thanks, James."

Mon-El calls Alex to tell her that Kara is still on the ship, but the President orders her to fire the cannon. "You have your orders, now complete your mission," she tells her, which honestly seems a little off considering Supergirl is National City's biggest asset really. However, before Alex can press the button, the cannon is blown up.

Ever the optimist, Kara goes to Rhea to try to convince her to surrender. However, Rhea tells her that she can't appeal to her feelings as she even killed her own husband when he stood in her way. Just as Rhea starts to fight Kara, Superman flies in. To be honest, that was the last thing I expected!

This week's episode was absolutely crazy and action-packed even if it was all set-up for the final battle in next week's episode. Of course, it seems obvious that Supergirl will win (especially with Superman and Cat Grant on her side), but I'm honestly not sure how at this point.

Will J'onn ever wake up? How will Kara and crew defeat Rhea? And who else is super excited for both Cat and Superman to be back? Don't forget to tune back in next week for the season finale of SUPERGIRL and check back for my next recap.
