That felt like... a happy ending? Am I still watching SCANDAL? As the fourth season comes to a close, it was an uncharacteristic uplifting ending for most of our characters. Sure, some were out of a job, some out of a marriage, but it did seem like temporary bliss for the Commander-in-Chief.

Rowan met with Mellie as a donor, but quickly showed his cards as he gave her a folder filled with photos of her and the Vice President as well as photos of Fitz dealing with "Remington." All Rowan asked in return was for a list. What list was that you ask? Oh, stay tuned.

David Rosen began the trial where Jake was testifying. It seemed to go well. That is until all of the jurors were viciously assassinated. Yeah, THAT was the list. Rosen freaks out (justifiably) and resigns. Olivia pays a visit to her Mom for her advice as Mama Pope was really the only one who ever got to Rowan. The only hint she could spare is that maybe Command has enemies, but does anyone know who Command is? Olivia and Jake go to the head of the CIA with the files and tell them everything.

In the meantime, Mellie confesses to Cyrus what she's done. And he's pretty uninterested until she says the magic word: Remington. Cyrus snaps into action. He pays a visit to Rowan who only wants Cyrus' gratitude for saving the Fitzgerald Administration from exposure from Remington. Cyrus goes to the head of the CIA and threatens her to keep this under wraps. The CIA throw Jake and Olivia in jail. If they sign an affidavit that B-613 didn't exist, they will be released. Cyrus blackmails Rosen by threatening to kill Abby. (Harsh!) Jake and Olivia wind up signing and getting out of jail and Rowan gleefully makes the victory phone call to Olivia. He even got her mother released from prison to avoid having Olivia use her as an ally again. He killed all the remaining agents who could identify him and destroyed all the files. B-613 is no more. Quinn doesn't want to give up as they still have Huck's billions of dollars as proof. Olivia figures out that if they can't get Command, they can go after Rowan's alter ego, Eli Pope and has him arrested for embezzlement. He is less than pleased, but by Olivia's swagger out of the jail, she was.

Oh and there was one more blackmail scheme, Rowan blackmailed Huck and his family. Because Huck is the one who assassinated all those people. Quinn figures it out and threatens to kill him and Huck begs her to. Cliffhanger! (And really the only one... that we kind of know what will happen.)

Mellie wins the election (another non-surprise) and while she accepts, Elizabeth "accidentally" reveals to Fitz what went down with Rowan. Fitz is very mad. So mad, in fact, that he kicks Mellie out of the house and fires Cyrus. Elizabeth smiles. She planned it all along.

Finally, Jake says goodbye to Olivia. His "mission" is complete and he is in love with her, but she is in love with Fitz. She can't really deny that, so he goes. (YOU ARE A FOOL, OLIVIA POPE!) Fitz shows up at her apartment, but she is gone. When he gets home, she is there.

There was a lot of scheming and blackmailing and wrapping up storylines, but no giant jaw-dropping, "How Am I Going to Get Through the Summer" moments in this finale. Sure Olivia ended up with Fitz, but can we bank on that lasting? Probably not. And I'm guessing they didn't bring Jake to the brink of death only to bring him back and have him disappear. Jake Ballard (or Cooper as we learned?) will return. Quinn won't kill Huck, Rowan's in jail, Cyrus is fired and Mellie is kicked out. And even though there are Liv and Fitz shippers out there, I'm totally on Team Jake, in case you hadn't noticed. So forgive me if I wasn't over the moon that it was Fitz she ended up making out with at the end.

Any regular show? Pretty good finale. For Scandal? Eh, it was okay. Certainly not the strongest of the season. I guess this means we will be starting anew in the fall. I still have complete faith in Shonda Rhimes and look forward to Season Five. Have a good summer, Gladiators.

Lines I Love:

  • Rowan - You do not ask me who I am, Mrs. Grant, you ask me what I need.

  • Rosen - I live for justice, but I don't want to die for it.

  • Cyrus - I can't have a soul. If I had one, I would never accomplish a thing.

  • Olivia - You're right, we couldn't take command, but we can take Eli Pope.
