Finn Wittrock on tighty-whiteys, a theatre return and AMERICAN HORROR STORY: FREAK SHOW!

One of the standout leading players this season on hit FX horror anthology series AMERICAN HORROR STORY: FREAK SHOW is rising stage and screen star Finn Wittrock, who portrays frustrated high society mama's boy Dandy Mott, and he discusses his interactions with the PHANTOM OF THE OPERA-inspired Twisty The Clown, portrayed by John Carroll Lynch, his AMERICAN PSYCHO-inspired tighty-whitey monologue and his desperate desire to return to the theatre in a new interview.

Wittrock shares of how Ryan Murphy's THE NORMAL HEART led to his AMERICAN HORROR STORY role, "It actually happened on the set of "The Normal Heart." We were in New York and it was really cold. I had just come off "Unbroken," and I had done this serious weight-loss thing and I had to stay pretty low for this last scene of "The Normal Heart." Ryan basically just came up to me and said, 'Do you want to be in the next season of 'American Horror Story'? If you do, I'll just make it happen. I have the greatest idea for you.' Yeah, so it was really that easy. You don't conceive that those things actually happen and then they just happen to you and your life kind of changes overnight. I didn't really know what I was getting myself into."

Wittrock adds of his memorable AMERICAN PSYCHO-esque monologue performed in his underwear, "I still remember it. I could do it if I ever have to do a monologue. [Laughs] It's always a little daunting at first because you don't see it when you watch the thing, but a film set is basically a bunch of dudes standing around with equipment and you're naked doing this thing. But as you get into it and you start to know everybody, it becomes a real communal effort, and they're all trying to make it good too. I lost my self-consciousness within a few minutes of starting it. And I had been given some fair warning, a few weeks before, that I was going to be showing some skin, so I was able to get somewhat ready mentally and physically."

Furthermore, Wittrock says of his burning desire to return to the theatre following his last mainstage appearance in DEATH OF A SALESMAN in 2012, "I'll definitely go back. I'm jonesing for a play. It's been over a year. That's one of my real goals is to keep theater in my life."
