A&E premieres a two-hour crime special following the hunt for Long Island's most recent and notorious serial killer. THE LONG ISLAND SERIEL KILLER premieres on Monday, December 5 at 9PM ET/PT.

"The Long Island Serial Killer" is a tense, psychological thriller about the search for a missing woman that launched a massive manhunt, turning up body after body - but not hers. Now the families of those murder victims become detectives themselves, trying to discover not only who killed their daughters, but how they were lured into this dangerous underworld of online escort work.

In May 2010, a 24-year-old prostitute, Shannan Gilbert, vanished into thin air. She was last seen at the home of a client in the exclusive gated community of Oak Beach, Long Island. Seven months later, while searching the desolate road near where Shannan was last seen, the police made a grisly discovery: the remains of a body. A total of ten bodies were discovered all along the same stretch of road. Four of the victims were sex workers who had advertised on Craigslist, and all were found wrapped in burlap and dumped only feet from the road. "There was a common denominator linking all the bodies," says Suffolk County Police Commissioner Richard Dormer in the special. "We were sure we had a serial killer."

Shannan, however, was never found. As the police continue to investigate, the mystery deepens. Could the wealthy community of Oak Beach be harboring a serial killer?

The special includes interviews with Suffolk County Police Commissioner Richard Dormer; Mari Gilbert and Sherree Gilbert, family members of Shannan Gilbert; Melissa Cann, sister of murder victim Maureen Brainard-Barnes; and Lynn Barthelemy, mother of murder victim Melissa Barthelemy. It also features the first ever interview with Michael Pak, the driver of Shannan Gilbert and one of the initial suspects in her disappearance; exclusive on camera interview with Alex Diaz, Shannan's boyfriend; the most up to date interview with Suffolk County Police Commissioner Richard Dormer; and Kimberley Overstreet talks about her sister Amber Costello, one of the murdered women, and how she is looking to attract the killer in her own online escort ads.

"The Long Island Serial Killer" is produced by Blast! Films. A&E executive producers are David McKillop, Laura Fleury and Molly Thompson.
