Did you know that Cavalli's Giasone was the biggest selling show of the 17th-century? Revived a staggering 22 times in the first 50 years after its premiere, Giasoneenjoyed a mass appeal.

Why? Well, it could have been the masterful way composer Cavalli crafted together intrigue, love, lust and betrayal into agreat romantic comedy. As director Chas Rader-Shieber says, 'The greatest comedy hits closest to the bone.' Ouch. Ain't that the truth?

It may also have been audiences recognising themselves in this tale of one man and two women, bound together by confused feelings of lust and love, hope and despair.

Or perhaps the sexy, seductive quality of Cavalli's musicwas what captivated Cavalli's adoring Venetian public?

In the talented hands of Co-artistic Director Erin Helyard and our exceptional all-Australian cast, prepare to be transported to another time when aristocrats, tourists, courtesans and 'Joe Average' all formed an audience for the most popular opera of the 17th-century. (When you think about it ,that sounds a lot like a Sydney audience, wouldn't you agree?)
