What better way to begin the New Year than with musical performances that leave a smile on audiences faces? Plans for an arranged marriage and the threat of disinheritance won't stand in the way of a young couple in love in Opera Naples' new production of Gaetano Donizetti's masterpiece Don Pasquale, one of the three most popular Italian comic operas of all time.

Opera Naples presents the mid-19th century lighthearted, romantic farce at the Wang Opera Center January 14 and 16, 2016. Filled with schemes, pranks and alluring music, Don Pasquale stars baritone Steven Condy, acclaimed for his creative portrayals of the great "buffo" roles, in the title role as an arrogant old man bent on marrying his nephew off to a bride he deems suitable. When Ernesto refuses, Pasquale then plans to marry a young woman himself, and disinherit his nephew. Tenor William Davenport makes his role debut as the defiant Ernesto in this Opera Naples production. Making her debut with Opera Naples is young rising soprano Hailey Clarke as the object of Pasquale's amorous attentions. Baritone Jonathan Beyer, praised by Opera News as "an exemplary Dr. Malatesta", sings the role of Dr. Malesto, Don Pasquale's scheming physician and Ernesto's friend. With its graceful and melodic score, the music of Don Pasquale incorporates a layer of sophistication that matches the humorous plot.
