MADAMA BUTTERFLY to Launch OPERA San Antonio's 2015-16 Season

OPERA San Antonio's Board of Directors and Chairman Mel Weingart today announced the slate for OPERA San Antonio's second season as the Resident Opera Company of the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts.

Following a stunning inaugural season, OPERA San Antonio is presenting Giacomo Puccini's beautifully evocative Madama Butterfly on October 1 and October 3, 2015, featuring Maria Kanyova as Cio-Cio San and Adam Diegel as Lt. B.F. Pinkerton.

Following Madama Butterfly is a concert version of Giuseppe Verdi's technically demanding Il Trovatore on March 31 and April 2, 2016. Both performances will be accompanied by the San Antonio Symphony, conducted by Sebastian Lang-Lessing.

OPERA San Antonio initiated a bold new chapter in the musical life of San Antonio with its inaugural 2014-15 season. The second offering is a concert version of Il Trovatore jointly with the San Antonio Symphony on March 31 and April 2, 2016. Tickets for this production will be sold through the San Antonio Symphony. Details will be announced soon. OPERA San Antonio was formed in 2010 by Founder and Chairman of the Board of OPERA San Antonio Mel Weingart, with a mission to produce opera of uncompromising artistic quality, enriching the community through its education and outreach programs. The company's first performance was in May 2013 and featured a Gala Concert of Stars including Patricia Racette, Dolora Zajick, Jay Hunter Morris, Eric Owens, Lucas Meachem, Lisette Oropesa, Daniela Mack and Alek Shrader, accompanied by the San Antonio Symphony under the direction of their music director, Sebastian Lang-Lessing. In its inaugural 2014-2015 season, under the guidance of former Artistic Director Tobias Picker, OPERA San Antonio staged three productions that were widely lauded and included Picker's Fantastic Mr. Fox, Richard Strauss's Salome and Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari's Il segreto di Susanna (Susanna's Secret) and Franic Poulenc's La voix humaine (The Human Voice). This March production ran for two sold-out performances in the Tobin Center for the Performing Art's Carlos Alvarez Studio Theater.
