Bass-baritone Nicolas Testé was originally cast in Los Angeles Opera's "The Tales of Hoffmann," conducted by Plácido Domingo.

However, bronchitis began plaguing the performers, sidelining Testé, who was scheduled to perform on opening night, but instead, Wayne Tigges sang from the orchestra pit while Teste lip-synced on stage.

Testé will now miss Thursday evening's performance, and is expected to return for the Sunday matinee and the rest of the run. L.A. Opera's President, Christopher Koelsch, said that American bass-baritone Christian Van Horn will sub for Teste on stage during his absence. Van Horn was found during a nationwide search and performed in in L.A. Opera's 2007 production of Puccini's "La Bohème."
