Houston Grand Opera (HGO) will present performances of Mozart's The Magic Flute at Miller Outdoor Theatre tonight, May 22, and tomorrow, May 23, at 8 p.m. The Magic Flute matches a comic yet wise fairy tale with some of the most stunningly beautiful music ever written. HGO's performances on the outdoor stages offer free admission and access for new audiences to experience the acclaimed production, which the company presented to full houses earlier this season.

In HGO's May presentations of the beloved opera, Korean soprano and HGO Studio artist Pureum Jo will sing the role of the kidnapped Princess Pamina, alongside HGO Studio alumnus Scott Quinn as Prince Tamino. Korean soprano So Young Park, a member of Los Angeles Opera's Domingo-Stein-Colburn young artists program, sings the Queen of the Night, and HGO Studio bass Peixin Chen will sing the sage Sarastro.

This fully staged production was originally directed by Sir Nicholas Hytner and directed during HGO's 2014-2015 season by Ian Rutherford. The production will be revived for the outdoor presentations by director Katrina Bachus. The outdoor opera will feature sets and costumes designed by Bob Crowley, as adapted for the unique venues by the HGO Technical Department, and musical direction by HGO Head of Music Staff Bradley Moore, with the Houston Grand Opera Orchestra and Chorus.

HGO has staged productions at Miller Outdoor Theatre on a regular basis since 1957 and at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in The Woodlands since 1998.

Lead support for HGO's performance of The Magic Flute in The Woodlands is generously provided by the Wortham Foundation, Inc.; Houston Methodist; Vinson & Elkins LLP; Edward and Frances Bing Fund; William Stamps Farish Fund; and Halliburton.

HGO performances at Miller Outdoor Theatre are supported by the City of Houston through the Miller Theatre Advisory Board, and through HGO's NEXUS Initiative, which is made possible by Anchorage Foundation of Texas; The Brown Foundation, Inc.; Nabors Industries; Shell Oil Company; BBVA Compass; M.D. Anderson Foundation; and MD Anderson Cancer Center.
