In the second major grant announcement of fiscal year 2015, the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) will make a $20,000 award to Florida Grand Opera (FGO). FGO's proposed project focuses on the relationship between the company's upcoming production of Weinberg's The Passenger, its underlying themes and historical value, and the communities of South Florida.

The NEA will make 1,023 awards totaling $74.3 million nationwide in this funding round.

"I truly believe this production will be the cultural event of the season," said Susan T. Danis, General Director and CEO of Florida Grand Opera. "Through the funding awarded by the NEA, we will be able to reach new audiences and create new avenues for engagement with this magnificent piece. It is our hope that this opera and its story connect deeply with Miami's diverse community and create a lasting cultural impact."

Through its grant-making to thousands of nonprofits each year, the National Endowment for the Arts promotes opportunities for people in communities across America to experience the arts and to exercise their creativity.

NEA Chairman Jane Chu said, "The NEA is committed to advancing, learning, fueling creativity, and celebrating the arts in cities across the United States. Funding these new projects, like Florida Grand Opera's, represents an investment in both local communities and our nation's creative vitality."
