Dicapo Opera Theatre will present the Opera For Kids favorite Beauty and the Beast with three performances beginning today, December 1, 2012. Subsequent presentations take place Sunday, December 2, 2012. Saturday performances are at 11 a.m. & 2 p.m., and the final performance on Sunday at 11 a.m.

Vittorio Giannini’s Beauty and the Beast tells the story of Beauty’s two selfish sisters who plague their father for finery, but Beauty asks only for one red rose. The father finds the flower in the Beast’s garden, but the Beast exacts Beauty’s hand in exchange. After only a short time as his bride, she goes home, but dreams that the Beast is lonely, returns to comfort him, and finds him changed into a prince by her love.

Featuring members of the resident artist program, all performances are at Dicapo Opera Theatre, 184 East 76th Street at Lexington Avenue. Tickets, at $12 for children and $24 for adults, are available by calling Smarttix at 212-868-4444 or by visiting the Dicapo Web site at www.dicapo.com.
