BUYER & CELLAR's Jonathan Tolins Set for Metropolitan Opera Quiz Panel on 1/11

Jonathan Tolins, the author of Buyer & Cellar, will be a panelist on the Metropolitan Opera Quiz during the first intermission of this week's broadcast of Die Fledermaus. The new production of Strauss's operetta is performed in English with new dialogue by Broadway playwright Douglas Carter Beane, and features Tony Award winner Danny Burstein in the comic role of Frosch the jailer. This will be Tolins's second appearance on the Quiz after making his debut a year ago. Buyer & Cellar continues its record-breaking run at the Barrow Street Theatre off-Broadway and is currently selling tickets through April 13. The show will be produced later this year in Chicago, Los Angeles, and other cities to be announced.

The critically acclaimed hit comedy Buyer & Cellar, which recently celebrated its 200th performance at the Barrow Street Theatre (27 Barrow Street), has been honored in multiple 2013 Theater Best of Lists including Ben Brantley of the New York Times, Mark Kennedy of the Associated Press, David Rooney of The Hollywood Reporter, Elisabeth Vincentelli of the New York Post, Joe Dziemianowicz of the New York Daily News, Trey Graham of NPR, Linda Winer of Newsday, Steven Suskin of The Huffington Post, Matt Windman of AM New York, Jesse Oxfeld of The New York Observer, Brandon Voss of The Advocate, Janice Kaplan of The Daily Beast, Marc Snetiker of Entertainment Weekly, David Quinn of NBC New York,Andrew Gans of Playbill, Naveen Kumar of Towleroad, David Noh of Gay City News and Adam Feldman of Time Out New York. Buyer & Cellar, produced by Darren Bagert, Dan Shaheen and Ted Snowdon, recouped its initial investment faster than any Off-Broadway show in recent history and continues to break box office records. Buyer & Cellar, currently starring Michael Urie ("Ugly Betty"), is written by Jonathan Tolins and directed by Stephen Brackett.

Michael Urie received the 2013 Drama Desk and Clarence Derwent Awards for his acclaimed performance. He will launch the national tour of Buyer & Cellar at Broadway in Chicago's Broadway Playhouse (April 29 - May 25, 2014) followed by an engagement at Los Angeles' Mark Taper Forum (July 9 - August 17, 2014), with additional cities to be announced soon.Buyer & Cellar had its world premiere in April 2013 at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, where it received rave reviews and played a sold-out, extended run before transferring to the Barrow Street Theatre where it opened June 24, 2013.

Buyer & Cellar plays Friday through Wednesday at 7:30pm; Saturday and Sunday at 2:30pm at the Barrow Street Theatre (27 Barrow Street, east of Seventh Avenue South). There are no performances December 24, December 25, and January 1, and an added performance Thursday, January 2 at 7:30pm.
