General Director and CEO, Susan T. Danis announced today that an anonymous donor has stepped forward to help ensure the future of opera in Fort Lauderdale.

"This amazing person is willing to match every dollar raised between now and the end of January," Danis explained.

This generous offer has come as a direct result of FGO's announcement earlier this month stating that, unless a fundraising goal of $600,000 is met by January 31, 2015, the Opera would be unable to bring its 2015-16 Season performances to the Broward Center for the Performing Arts (BCPA).

"We are so fortunate to have an individual who wants to ensure that opera is available for the residents of Broward County at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. What a wonderful opportunity," Danis continued.

In this month's previous announcement, it was revealed that dwindling support has resulted in losses at BCPA for the Opera. A fundraising goal of $600,000 by January 31 was established, which is the date that the Opera must inform BCPA whether or not it is going to the use the dates that are reserved for the company. Approximately $200,000 has been identified at this time, leaving just $400,000 for the Broward community to contribute or pledge by the end of the month.

Florida Grand Opera is now asking all those who enjoy and support grand opera in Broward County to make their gifts or pledge today, for every dollar raised will now be matched by this anonymous donor. Donations can be made online at www.FGO.org For more information, or to make a pledge, please contact Senior Individual Giving Officer Max Kellogg at 305.403.3289 or mkellogg@fgo.org.
