Roger Pines Returns to the Metropolitan Opera Broadcast’s Opera Quiz, 5/5
Roger Pines, dramaturg of Lyric Opera of Chicago, will make a return appearance as a panelist on the Metropolitan Opera broadcast's celebratedOpera Quiz on Saturday, May 5 – the final live radio broadcast of the Met's 2011-12 season. The radio broadcast of Janá?ek's The Makropulos Case begins at 11:30 a.m. CDT and is carried locally on 98.7WMFT and www.wfmt.com
The Opera Quiz will air during the second intermission, starting around 1:15 p.m. CDT. (Some radio stations will broadcast on a 30-minute delayed feed, so the quiz would air around 1:45 CDT) Eric Owens is the guest, Brad Cresswell is the host, and the panelists joining Pines are Cori Ellison and Fadel Friedlander-Fulkerson.
Pines serves as commentator of The Matthew Bucksbaum Family Lyric Opera Broadcasts, which air live during Lyric's performance season October through March. Lyric's 2011-12 season will be rebroadcast internationally by The WFMT Radio Network and heard locally on 98.7WFMT for eight consecutive Saturdays beginning May 12. The rebroadcasts will all be streamed onwww.wfmt.com .
A Lyric Opera staff member since 1995, Roger Pines edits the company's program, co-edits the Lyric Opera News magazine, moderates the Discovery Series panel discussions, and undertakes a wide variety of publication, translation, speaking, writing, and research activities, in addition to providing commentary for the opening-night broadcasts. Pines also writes for music publications internationally and has served as a judge for the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions for more than 19 years. He has authored the liner notes for recordings by Renée Fleming, Nicole Cabell, Danielle De Niese, Joyce DiDonato, Juan Diego Flórez, Jonas Kaufmann, Susanne Mentzer, and many other artists. This will be Pines's seventh appearance on the Metropolitan Opera broadcast's Opera Quiz since his debut in February 2006.
The May 5 broadcast of The Makropulos Case stars Karita Mattila, Richard Leech, Johan Reuter, and Tom Fox.
