Phoenix, AZ -- The Nash announces its new LAST FRIDAY LATE NIGHT JAM, tonight, February 27, and March 27 and April 24 from 10:30 pm - 1:00 am. The Nash's Last Today Late Night Jam Sessions showcase the wide array of talent in the Valley as musicians drop in to spontaneously perform with the band.

Late Night Jam Sessions are rooted in the rich history of jazz, founded in Kansas City, Missouri in 1930 by the Mutual Musicians Foundation with such legends as Count Basie, Charlie Parker, Mary Lou Williams and Benny Moten.

"Historically, jam sessions provide a venue for jazz musicians to get together and play for fun, often when they get off from an earlier club gig or concert. The jam session also gives serious up-and-coming jazz musicians the chance to play with more experienced players and mentors.

"'The Last Friday Late Night Jams' build on nearly 3 years of successful Sunday night jams sessions at The Nash. By holding these jams after-hours on Friday nights, we are able to open our doors to the many working musicians who find the time slot and professional emphasis more accessible and inviting. In addition, the public will be able to enjoy spontaneous high-level jazz performances with more of an insider's feel." - Executive Director, Jazz in AZ/The Nash, Joel Goldenthal

About Matt Williams - While attending ASU from 2007 to 2011, Matt created his own late night jam session called Matt's Playhouse, which was modeled after historic late night jam sessions held in his hometown of Kansas City Missouri. Matt's jam was hailed by many as one of the best jazz jam sessions in Phoenix, and he has hosted artists such as Luques Curtis, Sachal Vasandani, Jeb Patton, Quincy Davis, Alex Pinto and many more. Matt Williams is an accomplished jazz pianist as well as vibraphonist, studying piano for over 18 years and over 10 years on the Vibraphone. As an adjunct professor at ASU, he teaches a jazz piano lab course for non jazz piano music majors as well as teaching piano and vibraphone to all ages. He performs frequently in clubs around the Valley with an avid fan following.

Located on the corner of 1st Street and Roosevelt on Roosevelt Row, The Nash has become the center for Jazz in the Valley with musicians and bands from a variety of styles featured at the venue each weekend. The Nash is committed to the development of future jazz musicians and hosts a wide array of vocal and instrumental lessons to encourage ensemble and improvisational work.
