Leading podcast and comedy listening platform Stitcher Premium is entering the musical podcast space with the new three-part series "Stolen Idea.". Actor and comedian Matt Besser (UCB) and musician Bobby Matthews (Dischord Records' Trusty) write and star in the musical comedy, produced by Earwolf superstar sound engineer Brett Morris, and launching on Stitcher Premium on September 27.

STOLEN IDEA is a comedy punk rock musical that covers the theft of intellectual property in the artistic worlds of music and comedy. The story follows a standup comedian and a rock musician who are both approaching 40 and are fearful their time to "make it" is running out. One has his idea stolen, the other steals an idea. Only the ghosts of Elisha Gray and Alexander Graham Bell can help them now!

"As a comedian who has had my ideas stolen, and as a long-time music fan, I have always been obsessed with what makes an artist want to steal an idea from another artist," said Besser. "The songs in our musical directly parody the so-called 'essence' from musicians who have stolen and been stolen from, including George Harrison/The Chiffons, Elton John, The Who, Neil Young, Shellac, Minor Threat, M.D.C., Vanilla Ice/Queen, and Coldplay/Creaky Boards/Joe Satriani. It was a lot of fun trying on their essence."

"Stolen Idea" is the first scripted musical distributed by Stitcher Premium.

"Highly produced musical podcasts are having a big moment in pop culture" said Jenny Radelet, executive producer of original content for Stitcher. "When Matt brought us a musical that hit both the worlds of comedy and music, we knew it was the perfect fit for Stitcher Premium listeners."

"Stolen Idea" features performances by James Adomian ("Trump vs. Bernie"), John Gemberling ("Broad City"), Virginia Matthews ("Mömandpöp"), Paul Rust ("Love"), Scott Aukerman ("Comedy Bang! Bang!"), Harris Wittels ("Parks and Recreation"), Mike Cassady ("Drunk History"), Mike Still ("Broken") and Danielle Schneider ("Bitch Sesh").

The 17-song soundtrack was produced and mixed by Earwolf's lead sound engineer Brett Morris, who also played guitar, bass and keys for the production, with Matthews from Dischord Record's Trusty on guitar and Sean Whalen on drums. The soundtrack will be released as three acts over three weeks, beginning Wednesday, September 27. The full soundtrack will also be available exclusively on Stitcher Premium on that date.
