Following the announce of Sonya Kitchell's new album We Come Apart, set for release on January 22nd via Rockwood Music Hall Recordings/Thirty Tigers, the Grammy winning singer/songwriter reveals her video for debut single "Mexico" with Paste Magazine.
Filmed and directed by Sonya herself (making her directorial debut), the video celebrates women in quiet moments of revelry, further enhancing the sensuous track. Gaining comparisons to the likes of Feist and Cat Power, We Come Apart sees Kitchell stepping into the roll of producer for the very first time. An album of powerful piano infused folk, she laid the foundation of the record with multi-instrumentalist Shahzad Ismaily and a host of notable friends including members of the The Dap Kings' Horn Section, Cellist Gyda Valtysdottir of MUM, Nate Walcott of Bright Eyes, and more. The time between solo releases has been prolific. Kitchell spent a year collaborating with the legendary Herbie Hancock on his Grammy-winning album, River: The Joni Letters. She has graced the stage at Carnegie Hall, Hollywood Bowl, the Montreaux Jazz Festival, Newport Folk Festival, and Central Park Summerstage. She has appeared on Late Night with David Letterman, Live at Abbey Road, and won two Grammys-for her work on River: The Joni Letters and Tedeschi Trucks Band's Revelator.New Album We Come Apart Released January 22nd
