Fresh off a fellowship at the Macdowell Colony, Shaina Taub kicks off a weekly Monday night acoustic residency at Rockwood Music Hall on February 6th at 9 PM, featuring brand new original music and songs off her record, What Otters Do.

The residency will feature Taub on lead vocals and piano, Mike Brun on bass and guitar, Jake Cohen and Hiroyuki Matsuura on the drums, with rotating special guests each week. Monday night's concert will feature Jo Lampert (The Last Goodbye), Kate Ferber (Ghost Brothers of Darkland County) and Dave Melton.

Vermont-raised, New York-based singer/songwriter Taub and her band have played to packed houses at such venues as Joe's Pub and Ars Nova. She released her debut EP this summer, entitled What Otters Do, an eclectic six-song collection spotlighting Taub's unique breed of pop brewed with folk and jazz. She was recently featured on NPR/WNYC's Best Concerts of 2011 list, alongside such greats as Mavis Staples and Taj Mahal. Her album is currently available for free download on Taub's website and all online music providers.

Taub’s folk-funk opera, The Daughters, was developed last summer at Mark Brokaw's Yale Institute of Music Theater, featured in the 2010 NAMT Songwriter's Showcase, workshopped at CAP21 Theater Company and was a 2011 Richard Rodgers Awards finalist. She is Ars Nova's 2012 Composer-in-Residence, and is currently developing a new musical piece commissioned by the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.

Rockwood Music Hall is located at 196 Allen Street. Admission is $12. Admission is free. Monday night's concert is on Stage Two, and all following weeks are on Stage One.
