Blake Ruby, an artist and multi-instrumentalist who attends Belmont University in Nashville, released "Not I," a personal and introspective EP, on April 6 replete with tight grooves, haunting melodies and intricate instrumentation. "I was very intentional about each instrument having a purpose and not just filling space," said Ruby.

The EP consists of five songs written over the last couple years and recorded in Ruby's dorm room throughout the semester. "When I got to Belmont I knew I wanted to release my own music, so I spent the first semester in the fall learning how to produce. I jammed with some of the incredible musicians down in Nashville," noted Ruby. "I produced and played everything on the EP. I really love having the creative control of doing everything myself."

Ruby's influences include Tame Impala, The Beatles, UMO, Dawes, Robert Glasper, Mac Miller, Kendrick Lamar and Anderson Paak. The big theme of the "Not I" EP is honesty and humility. Ruby's lyrics reflect his life and feelings over the last few years. "The music has been a way to pour out my emotions and thoughts, and I hope that whoever listens is able to feel something too," concluded Ruby.

"Not I" is available to stream on SoundCloud, Bandcamp and Spotify. It can be purchased at https://blakeruby.com/merch/not-i-ep.
