Muscle Shoals Live & Lisa Fischer to Return to Park City, 8/3

Casting a well-deserved spotlight on artists who typically do not take center stage (but clearly should do so more often), Muscle Shoals Live: The River That Sings returns to Park City for an encore performance August 3. Inspired by two remarkable 2013 Sundance films, "Muscle Shoals Live" and "Twenty Feet From Stardom," Park City Institute's Teri Orr teamed up with Muscle Shoals' Jesse Boyce to curate a concert featuring an outstanding collection of under-sung musicians hailing from a hotbed of talent and stardom known as the "Singing River;" Grammy winner Lisa Fischer (think jaw-dropping "Gimme Shelter" duet with Mick Jagger) tops the billing. This signature St. Regis Big Stars, Bright Nights concert starts at 7 p.m.; gates open at 5:30 p.m. at Deer Valley Resort's Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater. Lawn and reserved seating tickets are available.

Named for the little Alabama town that drew some of rock and R&B's biggest names (Aretha Franklin, Dylan, the Stones) to its recording studio - "Muscle Shoals Live: The River That Sings" roster includes Jesse Boyce, MSLive producer and original member of the Solid Gold Fame Gang featured in the "Muscle Shoals" documentary; Grammy-nominated soul legend Candi Staton (multiple gold album recipient whose hit "Stand By Your Man" topped charts),Wayne Chaney, Kimberly Nicole Mont, John Primm, Samson White, Gale Mayes, Jermaine Johnson, and Haley Reed.

"Last summer, this concert featured a similar cast of extraordinary artists and they collectively and individually blew away the audience," says PCI's executive director Teri Orr. "And Lisa Fischer, while new to the billing, will only up the ante."

Fischer, who was featured in the documentary "Twenty Feet from Stardom," has long been the recognizable voice accompanying rock stars, ranging from the Rolling Stones (she's been a part of every Stones tour since 1989) to Beyoncé. She won her Grammy for the No. 1 R&B hit "How Can I Ease the Pain," off of her 1991 album "So Intense." In reviewing the album, The Washington Post called Fischer a "tremendous talent" and a singer with "great range, often hitting high notes few of her counterparts can."

Local non-profits are teaming up to augment the first weekend in August's abundant arts offerings. In collaboration with Park City Kimball Arts Festival, Park City Institute offers a 20% discount on lawn tickets to arts festival wristband holders. Additionally, Sundance Institute will present a free screening of "Twenty Feet From Stardom" on August 1 at 9 p.m. in City Park.

All St. Regis Big Stars, Bright Nights concerts take place at Deer Valley Resort's Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater. Discounted tickets are available for children (under age 16) as well as seniors (age 62 and older).

Gates open 90-minutes before show time. Coolers are permitted and a nine-inch chair height restriction (i.e. you shouldn't be able to roll a basketball under the seat) is enforced. Concerts will be held rain or shine.
