Five-time Grammy-Award winning singer-songwriter and 2012 Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee Mary Chapin Carpenter is on the road again. She'll make a stop at The Ridgefield Playhouse on Wednesday, November 19, at 8 p.m. with an intimate, acoustic performance! The tour marks Carpenter's return to singing both timeless hits and deep cuts from her expansive and beloved 13-album catalog, after performing with orchestras in early 2014. Mary Chapin Carpenter is well-known for her blend of pop, folk and country-style music. With hits "Passionate Kisses", "I Feel Lucky", "I'll Take My Chances" and "He Thinks He'll Keep Her", she has won five Grammy Awards (with 15 nominations), two CMA awards and two Academy of Country Music awards for her vocals. Carpenter will be joined on stage by longtime friends Jon Carroll (piano) and John Doyle (guitars, bouzouki). Special guest is singer/songwriter Tift Merritt, who has built what has been called a "unique" and critically acclaimed body of work of "sonic short stories and poignant performances". She has been compared to Joni Mitchell and Emmylou Harris. This event is part of the Doyle Coffin Singer/Songwriter Series.

Carpenter has spent the past year performing alongside world-renowned orchestras since the release of her debut orchestral album, Songs >From the Movie which was conducted and arranged by six-time Grammy-Award winner Vince Mendoza. Carpenter's world debut orchestral concert took place on January 24 at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall alongside the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. In March, she performed two milestone concerts at New York's Lincoln Center with the New York Philharmonic, conducted by Mr. Mendoza, and was joined by special guests Joan Baez, Shawn Colvin, Jerry Douglas, Tift Merritt and Aoife O'Donovan. In addition to releasing her latest album, Ashes and Roses, to widespread critical acclaim, she was recently inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame and won an Emmy award for her work on Nashville Public Television's No Going Back: Women and the War.

Considered by some an unlikely country music star who refuses to wear the typical country-and-western attire and has an Ivy League degree, Carpenter's work is genre blurring. Mary Chapin Carpenter has sold more than 13 million records.

For tickets ($65), call the box office at 203-438-5795, or buy tickets online at ridgefieldplayhouse.org. The Ridgefield Playhouse is a not-for-profit performing arts center located at 80 East Ridge, parallel to Main Street, Ridgefield, CT.
