MUSIC IN MOTION Set for Club Oberon This Week

Experience an unforgettable evening of music and visual theater as Juventas New Music Ensemble joins with Puppet Showplace Theater on a journey through 100 years of modern music.

Music in Motion, scheduled for this week, May 5 & 6 at Club Oberon, features works from the past and present - as we point to the future. The production, which is partially funded by the NEA and the Mass Cultural Council/Cambridge Arts, brings together Juventas' acclaimed ensemble, four top Boston singers and Puppet Showplace's award-winning puppeteers, who translate incredible music into theater. The evening features three world premieres.

Travel back in time with eight short works representing an array of musical styles: Satie's comical composition, "Things Seen Left and Right (without Glasses)," Berberian's graphically-notated "Stripsody" (complete with Tarzan yells), Berio's contemplative "O, King" and Stockhausen's outrageous "Wings of the Nose Dance."

Catch a glimpse into the future with two premieres - one featuring newly created robotic instruments (!) from the Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and the other by our youngest composer to date, the 15-year-old Benjamin Perry Wenzelberg.

The evening also features a pre-show world premiere 30-minute mystery-theater opera. "The Cellist is Dead," by Boston-based composer Oliver Caplan.
