Iron Butterfly Bass Guitarist Lee Dorman Passes Away at 70

According to The New York Times, bass guitarist Lee Dorman of the psychedelic rock band Iron Butterfly, passed away on Friday, December 21, 2012. He was 70.

After the four-man band signed with Atco, a division of Atlantic Records in 1967, Iron Butterfly's popular song "In-a-Gadda-da-Vida" was released in 1968. The tune went on to become a Top 40 radio hit and has been featured in many films and TV shows, including "The Simpsons".

Other members of the band included Martin Gerschwitz, Larry Reinhardt, who died earlier this year, and Erik Braunn, who died in 2003.

Outside Iron Butterfly, Dorman created another band called Captain Beyond in the '70s, but continued touring with Iron Butterfly up into recent years.
