Hip-hop artist and songwriter, Wordsmith, launched a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo today, February 24, 2015. The independent artist's initial goal is to raise $1,500 to record a six- to eight-track EP that will include a radio single and is professionally produced. Stretch goals will include funding for digital distribution, record promotion, and a country-wide tour.

Following Wordsmith's crowdfunding campaign, he will be taking off on an international tour of Southwest Asia to perform for American troops. The 21-day tour is organized by Armed Forces Entertainment, the official Department of Defense agency for providing entertainment to U.S. military personnel overseas. The agency regularly recruits performing artists to have the honor of supporting soldiers, airmen, marines and sailors by bringing them the very best in American entertainment.

"It's a great honor to be asked to use my talents to support our troops," Wordsmith said. "My passion is writing hip-hop music that inspires people to be great and chase their dreams. I can't wait to bring this music with a message to some of the most deserving people in America- our troops."

Wordsmith's band, The Big Band Theory, will accompany him on his tour. The Big Band Theory consists of a bass guitar, electric guitar, drums and two female vocalists. Wordsmith uses this unique sound to grow his cross-genre appeal and appeal to an even wider and more diverse audience.

Wordsmith and The Big Band Theory have toured throughout his career with stops in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, Houston, Las Vegas and overseas in London, England. He has both lectured and performed at various music conferences around the country, including SXSW, A3C, Mid Atlantic Music, Millennium Music, Launch and more.

Wordsmith's Indiegogo campaign is live beginning today, February 24, 2015 and will run for 35 days, until March 30. A contribution of just $8 will earn backers a digital download of Wordsmith's new studio album. Other perk options range from music lessons from Wordsmith himself to a full-length hip-hop show from Wordsmith and the Big Band Theory.
