Country Music Stars Remember Legendary Singer Mel Tillis

According to Mel Tillis' publicist, country music legend Mel Tillis passed away early this morning at the Munroe Regional Medical Center in Ocala, Florida following a lengthy struggle to regain his health. Tillis battled intestinal issues since early 2016 and never fully recovered. The suspected cause of death is respiratory failure. Tillis was 85.

Tillis was a prolific singer-songwriter who wrote over 1,000 songs and recorded more than 60 albums. His career spanned six decades. Country music stars Kenny Rogers, George Strait Ricky Skaggs and more were among those who recorded his music. Among his top 10 hits, were "Good Woman Blues," "Heart Healer" and "Coca Cola Cowboy." In 2007, he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

I've lost another fishing buddy and a talented, talented brother. Without Mel and 'Detroit City,' I probably would not have had a career. Mel Tillis co-wrote Bare's smash-hit "Detroit City."
