Chubby Checker to Perform at Sam's Town, 6/28

Chubby Checker, commonly referred to as an icon of an era, will hit the stage at the Sam's Town Live! located within Sam's Town Hotel & Gambling Hall on June 28.

Displaying talent at a young age, Checker often entertained customers by singing and cracking jokes, while working at a local poultry shop. His workplace antics helped win an audition with a local record label, which signed the fledgling singer in 1959.

Checker, whose given name is Ernest Evans, became an icon in the 1960s, releasing his smash hit, #1 song "The Twist," which introduced the concept of "dancing apart to the beat." During the next few years, endless songs incorporated "The Twist" into their titles, such as "Peppermint Twist," "Twist and Shout" and "Twistin' the Night Away."

Checker continued his success with more chart topping hits and achievements. In 1961, he won a Grammy for "Let's Twist Again." In addition, the single "Pony Time" hit #1, and "The Hucklebuck," "Limbo Rock," "Slow Twistin" and "The Fly" all peaked on Billboard's Top Ten.

Later, in 2007, Checker returned to the charts yet again with "Knock Down The Walls," Billboard's #1 dance track. This song introduced Checker to a whole new audience with its powerful straight-ahead rock tempo and showcased Checker's continuous musical evolution.

Throughout his career, Checker has garnered numerous accomplishments, including being the only artist to have a song hit chart as #1 twice, the only artist to attain nine double-sided hits.
