Cracker and Camper Van Beethoven will once again be rolling into the Joshua Tree region of California this month to co-host their 10th annual CAMPOUT music festival.

CAMPOUT X will take place today, September 11th, and September 12th and 13th at Pappy & Harriet's Pioneertown Palace in the High Desert of Southern California. The locale of this fest ties in perfectly with Cracker's own history as their signature album Kerosene Hat was recorded here back in 1993 in the now-closed movie soundstage next to the Palace.

Cracker has been described as a lot of things over the years: alt-rock, Americana, insurgent-country, and have even had the terms punk and classic-rock thrown at them. But more than anything Cracker are survivors.

Cofounders David Lowery and Johnny Hickman have been at it for over 20 years now - amassing nine studio albums (their most recent, 2009's critically acclaimedSunrise In The Land Of Milk And Honey), multiple gold records, thousands of live performances, hit songs ("Low," "Euro-Trash Girl" and "Get Off This" to name just a few) that are still in current radio rotation around the globe, and a worldwide fan base - that despite the major sea-changes within the music industry - continues to grow each year. Cracker have currently been working on new material for their forthcoming double album (working title Berkeley to Bakersfield), due the first half of 2015, and are joined on it by the original Kerosene Hat rhythm section of J*Davey Faragher and Michael Urbano. The band will be unveiling material from it at this year's Campout X.

David Lowery's other pioneering indie act Camper Van Beethoven have recently released El Camino Real, the companion studio album and follow up to their highly lauded La Costa Perdida. Whereas La Costa reflected the northern California "back to the country" side of the band with lush and trippy references to Jack Kerouac, Richard Brautigan, The Beach Boys and "Big Sur," the songs on El Camino Real are firmly rooted in a grittier earth - one that lies beneath the southern half of the state and stretches all the way down to Baja California. Produced by the band and recorded in various studios and living rooms, El Camino Real's harder sonic edges capture the sounds of an entirely different road trip from Bakersfield through the Inland Empire and beyond the border to Mexico. The lineup remains Victor Krummenacher, Greg Lisher, David Lowery, Jonathan Segel and Michael Urbano.
