"As part of one of our nation's greatest and most iconic rock bands, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry crafted the music that defined a generation and continues to inspire songwriters today," commented Paul Williams. "They are true musical pioneers whose contributions to American songwriting are immeasurable. We are extremely proud to honor these cultural icons with the ASCAP Founders Award."
The 30th annual ASCAP Pop Music Awards will also honor the songwriters and publishers of the most performed songs of 2012. Top awards will be given out for Songwriter of the Year, Song of the Year and Publisher of the Year.
The ceremony comes on the eve of the 8th annual ASCAP "I Create Music" EXPO, a three-day conference dedicated to songwriting and composing. Steven Tyler will also give a keynote interview at the ASCAP EXPO with entertainment news journalist Roger Friedman. The conference will take place April 18-20, 2013 at the Loews Hollywood Hotel, in Los Angeles, CA. A wide range of music creator and industry panelists will be announced soon. The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) is a professional membership organization of songwriters, composers and music publishers of every kind of music. ASCAP's mission is to license and promote the music of its members and foreign affiliates, obtain fair compensation for the public performance of their works and to distribute the royalties that it collects based upon those performances. ASCAP members write the world's best-loved music and ASCAP has pioneered the efficient licensing of that music to hundreds of thousands of enterprises who use it to add value to their business from bars, restaurants and retail, to radio, TV and cable, to Internet, mobile services and more. The ASCAP license offers an efficient solution for businesses to legally perform ASCAP music while respecting the right of songwriters and composers to be paid fairly. With over 450,000 members representing more than 8.5 million copyrighted works, ASCAP is the worldwide leader in performance royalties, service and advocacy for songwriters and composers, and the only American performing rights organization (PRO) owned and governed by its writer and publisher members. www.ascap.com
