Justin Lin is helming the film, which will hit theaters on July 8, 2016, in time for the franchise's 50th anniversary, with J.J. Abrams returning as producer. Shooting is set to begin early this year.

Written by Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof, the second cilm followed the crew of the Enterprise as a shocking act of terror on Earth sends them on a manhunt to capture an unstoppable force of destruction and bring those responsible to justice. Pegg helped write Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World's End; he also starred in all three movies. The writer-actor also penned Run Fatboy Run and has recently appeared on the big screen in Hector and the Search for Happiness, The Boxtrolls, Kill Me Three Times, and will soon be seen in the upcoming Man Up, Absolutely Anything and Mission: Impossible 5.
