Brinkley's Station on East 60th Street in New York City is a stylish restaurant and bar with a wholly comfortable feel, one with real character. The furniture is delightfully miscellaneous, the menu is dominated by pub fare with in-house twists, and the most noticeable decoration is the display of fine spirits behind the bar.

But unlike other appealing places in the area, Brinkley's isn't just another neighborhood spot with a handful of killer cocktails. Far from it. The ceilings don't simply give you breathing room, they positively soar. Just right for a restaurant situated right across from Bloomingdale's and set up in a space that once housed a landmark bank. Add in a comfortable loft and metal-tone lighting fixtures with a life of their own, and the balance between bar-style candor and uptown class is complete.

The drinks themselves make the most of effects both standard and subtle. Popular cocktails include the Flying Wasp, which uses signature tastes such as mint, lemon, and tea to create a drink that is potent but not excessively sweet, substantial yet still smooth. Also noteworthy--indeed, indispensable--is the Brinkley's Old Fashioned, a drink for any season that returns a much-loved cocktail to its roots. With a top local beer selection and fine New York wines, Brinkley's has an ideal beverage program.

In terms of food, Brinkley's also tends to favor flavors that are quiet and rewarding. The Three Cheese Mac and Cheese ($15) is just one of their tempting "Shares," perfect for a starter or as a tasty bite to go with drinks. It combines Italian Fontina, Parmigiano Reggiano and Pecorano Romano with the obligatory breadcrumbs: the dish has the taste of a rich fondue but is truly classic pasta. Their Grassfed Burger ($16.50) is another specialty, and can be topped off with lush avocado or pancetta.

Stop by for Brinkley's weekend brunch to try the Messy Breakfast Sandwich ($15) which adds spinach and tomato to the expected wealth of egg and cheese. You can also skip right to the highly-recommended Brinkley's key lime pie ($8). Selections like these will grow on you, as will everything Brinkley's Station has to offer. It's the spot you will make your own and return to time after time.

Brinkley's Station is located at 156 East 60th Street, New York, NY, 10022. Open 7 days, the kitchen is open until 2:00 am. The restaurant is also available for private parties and special events.
