Start the Lunar New Year with a walk through Chinese culinary symbolism at the garden Court Café on Sunday, Jan. 29, when Chef Tsering Nyima will present an eight-course brunch, each dish of which will express his best wishes for diners' 2017 - the likes of longevity, prosperity and family unity. Indeed, when each dish is presented under the café's natural light dappled trees, Chef Nyima will explain what they symbolize and why. The menu for the $40 brunch, inclusive of tax and gratuity, annotated with each dishes meaning, follows:

-Uncut Long Noodle Soup - Longevity, braised chicken, daikon, Napa cabbage

-Steamed Cod - Prosperity & Abundance, sizzling ginger, sesame & black vinegar rice

-Anchovy Fried Rice - Wealth, edamame beans

-Duck Confit Spring Rolls - Fertility, cabbage & shiitakes

-Stir Fried Baby Yu Choy (a spinach leaf like vegetable) - Family Unity, crispy shallots

-Shiitake Mushrooms & Bean Sprouts - Longevity, sautéed in sesame oil, ginger & garlic

-Sticky Rice Cakes - Fortune, red bean paste

-Steamed Buns - Safety, sweet chestnuts & rum paste

The Chinese New Year Brunch will take place on Sunday, January 29 at noon in the Garden Court Café, located at 725 Park Avenue (between 70th and 71st) in the Asia Society. Tickets may be purchased via https://www.komeeda.com/events/86
