THIS IS BIG, so far as thoughtful, intellectually provocative, often hilarious century spanning contemporary dance investigations go. 2016 marks the 25th anniversary of Big Dance Theater, as one of the most compelling and innovative ensembles in New York. Under the artistic leadership of Annie-B Parson and Paul Lazar, who have honed a distinctive dance theater performance style that has been disrupting, and influencing, the urban downtown scene for the last 25 years, BDT has created a body of literate, archeological, mind-bending work that is unique in the field of performance, one at the forefront of experimentation hybridity and functional eccentricity.

BDT's Yard Offshore Creation Residency will center around the formulation of something brand-new and barely named, New Work/Take One, a ensemble-based multimedia and multidisciplinary production inspired by the 17th Century diarist Samuel Pepys and his wife, Bess, and their pioneering female contemporary author and playwright Margaret Cavendish. The work will feature choreography by Annie-B Parson, video design by Jeff Larson, and sound design by Tei Blow, and will fully premiere in 2017.

Take One performances will take place at The Yard, Chilmark (note different times): Thursday, August 25 at 8pm Saturday, August 27 at 6:30pm. Tickets will begin at $25 (General); $15 (Seniors, Students, Military); $5 (Children under 12). Behind the Counter and Membership discounts apply

For 25 years, Big Dance Theater has worked to create over 20 dance/theater works, generating each piece over months of collaboration with its associate artists, a longstanding, ever-evolving group of actors, dancers, composers, and designers. Big Dance Theater received New York Dance and Performance "Bessie" Awards in 2002 and 2010; the company was awarded an OBIE in 2000, and BDT company members have received 5 other "Bessie" Awards and an OBIE award for their work with Big Dance. In 2007 the company received the first-ever Jacob's Pillow Dance Award. Big Dance Theater has been presented around the world including France, Italy, Belgium, The Netherlands, Brazil, and Germany and in the USA in venues including: Brooklyn Academy Of Music, Dance Theater Workshop, The Kitchen, The Performing Garage, New York Live Arts, The Chocolate Factory, Japan Society, Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival, The Museum of Contemporary Art (Chicago), Walker Art Center, On the Boards, and The Spoleto Festival.
