The Wallis & LA's Invertigo Dance Theatre's Courses Begin in November

To launch what both companies hope to be an ongoing collaboration, the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts and Invertigo Dance Theatre will offer three very different dance and movement programs that are open to the public. "Tiny Tots Move and Groove" for families with toddlers; "Dancing Through Parkinson's" for people living with Parkinson's Disease as well as their friends, families and care-partners, and "Dancing Through Life" for older adults who want to explore dance. These three inter-generational dance classes aim to spark connections among community members of all ages. All courses begin Friday, Nov 13 and will be offered at GRoW: A Space for Arts Education at The Wallis in Beverly Hills.

"Arts learning is a central part of our mission at The Wallis," said Mark Slavkin, Director of Education at The Wallis. "We believe people of all ages should experience the joy of participating in the arts, from the youngest toddlers to the most senior adults. This new partnership with Invertigo Dance Theatre is a perfect match for our mission.

Invertigo's Executive Director Tara Aesquivel, says of the new classes, "We are thrilled to partner with The Wallis to offer Invertigo's community programs at their beautiful facility. Dancing Through Parkinson's and our youth education program, called Invert/ED, began in 2009 and have been expanding throughout the LA region since. This partnership allows us to respond to community requests and serve a broader audience with Dancing Through Life and Tiny Tots Move & Groove."

About Invertigo Dance Theatre Classes at The Wallis:
"Tiny Tots Move and Grove"
Offered for 5 Fridays at 11:15am and again at 12:15pm.
The classes are an extension of education initiatives Invertigo has conducted in other settings. These classes are a fun way to encourage creativity, activate the body and work on fine motor skills! Classes include an energetic warm-up, dance games and activities, as well as learning exciting new dance moves. Toddlers and parents will be able to move and groove to fun music in an safe and creative environment! Each 5 to 10 week session will culminate with a showing for friends and family. No prior dance experience required. All toddler participants must be accompanied by an adult. The cost is $150 for the five sessions and covers the participation of the child and one parent/caregiver.

Dancing Through Parkinson's
Offered Fridays at 1:30pm on an ongoing basis beginning November 13.
The Dancing Through Parkinson's (DTP) program provides donation-based weekly dance classes to people living with Parkinson's disease and other degenerative diseases, as well as their families and caregivers. Classes encourage joy, stability, balance, increased flexibility and keeping the mind alert. Classes are led by experienced teachers who are professional dancers and have trained with the Mark Morris Dance for PD program in Brooklyn. No prior dance experience is required. Teachers demonstrate standing and seated activities and can provide movement options for a wide range of physical abilities.

No advanced registration or payment is required. Participants are encouraged to make a $15 donation per session.

Dancing Through Life
Offered Fridays at 3pm on an ongoing basis starting November 13.
Dancing Through Life, a community program of Invertigo Dance Theatre, is created for people who want to explore dance as an older adult. Taught by experienced professional dancers, classes are designed to help strengthen participant's bodies through the medium of dance, while also encouraging joy through movement, community and creativity.

Friends and family are encouraged to join. Participants are able to move at their own pace, and movements are taught with variations to accommodate a range of abilities. No dance experience is required.

No advanced registration or payment is required. Participants are encouraged to make a $15 donation per session.
