2013 MacArthur Fellow Kyle Abraham is a Princess Grace and Bessie Award-winning choreographer whose work is often characterized by a sensual and provocative movement vocabulary combined with a strong emphasis on sound. With the return of his acclaimed Abraham.In.Motion to The Joyce this season, he celebrates that love of sound and, specifically jazz, by treating audiences to the company's first-ever live music program. The works seen during this engagement include The Gettin', featuring music by Grammy Award-winning jazz artist Robert Glasper and his trio, who reimagine Max Roach's We Insist! Freedom Now Suite; The Quiet Dance, a fluid, smooth and silky work set to the equally smooth sounds of Leonard Bernstein's Some Other Time, arranged by Bill Evans and performed by acclaimed pianist Kris Bowers; and the New York premiere of Abstract Matter, a new work created in collaboration with Bowers, Blue Note recording artist Otis Brown III, lighting designer Dan Scully, and costume designer Karen Young.

Performances of Abraham.In.Motion, a presentation of The Joyce Theater Foundation, Inc., will take place from November 10-15 at The Joyce Theater (175 Eighth Avenue at 19th Street) according to the following schedule: Tuesday-Wednesday 7:30pm; Thursday-Friday 8pm; Saturday 2pm & 8pm; Sunday 2pm. Curtain Chat, a free post-performance talkback with the artists, will take place on Wednesday, November 11. This enlightening discussion is open to all patrons attending that evening's performance. Tickets range in price from $10 to $50 and can be purchased through JoyceCharge at (212) 242-0800 or online at www.Joyce.org. Please note: ticket prices are subject to change.
