Award-winning, internationally recognized Pilobolus Dance Company will perform innovative, energetic and gravity-defying works at The Alden in McLean in April. The single performance will be at 8 p.m. on Friday, April 17. Tickets are $50 for the general public and $40 for McLean tax district residents. The theatre is located inside the McLean Community Center at 1234 Ingleside Avenue. The program contains nudity.

Pilobolus, which takes its name from a barnyard fungus that propels its spores with extraordinary speed, accuracy and strength, was founded by a group of Dartmouth College students in 1971. Acclaimed for its mix of humor, invention and drama and for the quickness and athleticism of its dancers, the company continually breaks down barriers and challenges the way people think about dance.

In recent years, the company has transformed from avant-garde dance troupe into an international entertainment company featured on such programs as "Oprah," "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" and the Academy Awards. In addition to performing live in 65 countries for five million people for more than 42 years, the company has engaged in activities as varied as making circuses, publishing books, breaking world records and teaching in schools.
